A death groan is a sound one makes when dying or at the time of death. It is a guttural noise of anguish that signals the end of life. However, there are many other synonyms for this term. Some of them include gasp, final breath, dying cry, last moan, death rattle, and the list goes on. Each of these terms puts emphasis on different aspects of the dying process. A gasp, for example, suggests that a person's breathing is shallow and labored. In contrast, a death rattle implies that the person's breathing is irregular and wheezy. Nevertheless, regardless of the term employed, each connotes the inescapable reality of death.
